Inmigrantes europeos en USA: inicios de una diferencia (español & english)

Foto de una típica familia inglesa (o irlandesa) llegada a territorio norteamericano. No parece gente rica. Así sería el grueso de los formadores del "Imperialismo Yanqui". Lo que les diferencia de los españoles colonizadores en Hispanoamérica es que estos inmigrantes europeos en USA llegaban con su familia para quedarse y hacer allí su nueva patria. Estos salían de Irlanda o de Inglaterra sólo después de pagar el último penique al duque o al conde dueño de la tierra donde trabajaban. Ya en territorio de USA le dirían "toda esta tierra hasta donde alcanza la vista es suya". El trabajo de generaciones, y los valores sociales que traían, harían el resto de lo que hoy conocemos.

Hay cientos de fotos parecidas a esta, tomadas en Ellis Island, N.Y., en donde recibían a miles de inmigrantes de toda Europa con parecidas características a las de la familia de la foto anexa.

Por su parte, el típico conquistador español llegaba a Hispanoamérica (a Las Indias) solo, sin esposa ni hijos; con el casi exclusivo objeto de regresar rico a España.

Es probable que estas diferencias iniciales empezarían a marcar las actuales diferencias que observamos entre el Norte (Estados Unidos) y el Sur (Hispanoamérica y el Caribe).

Photo of a typical English family (or Irish) arrived in U.S. territory. They not seem rich people. Like them were most of the builders of "Yankee imperialism." What makes the difference with the Spanish colonizers in Latin America is that these European immigrants arrived in the U.S. with their family to stay there and make their new homeland there. They came from Ireland or England only after paying the last penny to the Duke or Count landowner, where they worked. Already in U.S. territory would tell them "the whole land as far as the view gets is yours." The work of generations and social values they brought, did the rest of what we know today.

There are hundreds of photos like this at Ellis Island, NY, where were received thousands of immigrants from across Europe with similar characteristics to the family of this photo.

Meanwhile, the typical Spanish conquistador arrived in Latin America alone, without a wife or children, with the sole purpose of returning rich to Spain.

It is likely that these initial differences began to mark the current differences we see today between North (USA) and South (Latin America and the Caribbean).
